FPC FC in Leeds

FPC FC have been given an incredibly hard draw for the group stages on Saturday. They face last season’s league winners Millwall who are also playing in the IFA Cup Final on the Friday night. Let’s hope Ayr United manage to tire them out! The other English team in the group is Fulham – you’ve guessed it, this year’s national champions. The group is completed by Inter Milan, a team who have the backing of their ‘proper’ club to supply them with enough kit to open a small sports shop. So, the boys will be up against it!

However, the tournament is not merely about winning, it is also about drinking lots of beer. A good time will be had in the bar on Friday night and Leeds town centre will be invaded by hundreds of football fans on Saturday evening. This acts as a nice ‘warm up’ for the games on Sunday. FPC normally find themselves in the Plate competition and in both previous visits have done well. A golden goal defeated them in the final in 2002 and a quarter final penalty shoot out ended the hopes last time. Maybe this is the year?

While all of the players put in a lot of effort to play for the side, the unsung hero is manageress Piglet. Many hours of often thankless work are put into arranging games, washing strips, sorting transport and finding out if Frazzle got arrested on Friday night but Piglet gets it all done. Well done Gaffer!
