Hearts - 24h On

It is in the nature of football fans that we rarely accept whatever level of performance our team produces. If we go through a poor spell then we call for heads to roll. If we have a pleasant surprise and see the team playing well we still ask for more.

Could Lewis Grabban be the answer?

Motherwell fans are, despite the positive start, having a frustrating time. The team has lost two league games and won three yet there may be problems ahead. We played well against Hearts on Monday and even better when we faced Kilmarnock but we lost both and scored only once in the three hours of play. This was on home turf and with a hugely supportive crowd roaring encouragement.

We finished the last game with a wildly aggressive formation. We were armed to the teeth with forwards but still failed to score. Every team can have 'one of those days' but we seem to be having more than most. What to do?

Mark McGhee made it clear after the game that "our finishing was desperate". "If you don't score goals you don't win games". "We had enough good play to win the football match".

The transfer window is closed and so there is no possibility of an import. We have to make the best of our current resources. It looks as though there will be lots of shooting practice at the training sessions in the next fortnight.

Given the determined and scientific approach our new manager has brought to the club since his arrival we have reason to hope that he might find a solution. If hard work, drill and practice and good coaching can help our forwards find the net then we surely have the right man in charge. Let's hope we see some better finishing at Pittodrie.
