Hearts: 24h On

Last updated : 24 February 2008 By Firparkcorner

Saturday's game is one that is best forgotten. Neither team looked comfortable in the wild wind, and it took a scrappy own goal to split the sides. The current Motherwell team are far from their best when forced to play the long ball game. The tactic worked last midweek against Inverness but the Hearts defence were rarely troubled by the aerial route.

A wet pitch for the warm up

Reports promise that the surfaces to be found at Pittodrie,
Falkirk and Easter Road might allow the ball to run true and we can return to the preferred passing game. Our next game at Fir Park is on March 15 when Celtic visit for a 1230 kick off. We can only hope that the weather relents to allow the swamp to dry out. Gretna have three home games scheduled while we are on the road.

However, ground conditions apart, we have many reasons to be cheerful. Our strong position in the table is not what we expected at the start of the campaign and despite our small squad size we have no players missing though injury or suspension. Regardless of the way results go from now on, Motherwell fans have been treated to some stunning demonstrations of direct, free flowing, passing football and the team have our thanks for the entertainment provided.

Snap! Was the game so boring?

The club AGM takes place on Monday evening and the shareholders will have an opportunity to thank Mark McGhee and his management team for their efforts. Would it be too much to hope that he can be persuaded to stay for another season?
