Hearts Preview

Our recent SPL record has surprised all the pundits and there is every reason to hope that it can continue. Despite a number of regular first team players being sidelined with injuries the small squad seems able to cope well with the changes. Indeed it looks like the eleven heroes who brought Celtic’s run of SPL wins to an end have earned a start against the Jam Tarts.

The return to fitness of both Dair and (hopefully) Partridge will not go unnoticed by those who will start on Saturday. A winning team needs competition for places and the more players available to Terry Butcher the better.

Many ‘Well fans are experiencing an unusual sensation in the later stages of this league campaign. We are looking up the table for the next target rather than worrying about escaping the relegation zone. Dunfermline are just one point ahead and if results go our way we could be in fourth spot by five o’clock on Saturday.

But taking points from Hearts is never easy. They have had a good season to date though their away form of late has dipped. Our previous meetings this term have resulted in draws, 1-1 at Fir Park in September and a boring 0-0 at Tynecastle in December. They have their own fitness problems though and deVries and Webster will not be available.

With the path now cleared for us to resume normal trading and the team in splendid form there is every reason to expect a large and enthusiastic support in the home stands. Let’s hope that the lads get a lift from the twelth man and that they gather three points.

However, I’ll stick a couple of quid on a 1-1 draw.
