Hibs: 24 h On

Those who were at Tannadice for the ninth SPL game were aware that we were off form inside the first five minutes. There was a lack of sparkle and inspiration and the tempo was slow.

In contrast, the start to Saturday's game demonstrated that we were 'up for it'. Our passing was quick and crisp and there were eager runners looking for the ball. It was obvious that the same eleven had come out with a different attitude and that Hibs were in for a stiff test.

To single out any individual from a good team showing is always difficult but here are a few who earned gold stars. Jim Paterson patrolled the left wing from his defensive starting position and was always willing to make the long run to be available. He deserves great credit for his loss of weight and increased fitness and he must derive great satisfaction that the hours spent in the gym have paid such noticeable dividends.

Ross McCormack attracted lots of attention in the Sunday papers. Some quotes; The Sunday Mail...."a rampant Ross McCormack ended their unbeaten run with a brilliant brace", Scotland on Sunday…..".He scores two beautiful goals", BBC Online..."a stunning strike" and The Times...."the first a long-range curling effort on 35 minutes followed by an equally impressive free kick". His confession that he was too selfish in seeking his first hat trick was honest enough and it was evident in one or two attacks that he had ignored team mates in better scoring positions. Still, it is hard to be overly critical and we can only hope that he gets the monkey off his back soon.

McCormack almost scored with this free kick

McGarry was very unlucky not to find the net. His two second half strikes had the keeper beaten and only the woodwork prevented us gaining the third goal to give us a comfortable cushion.

The result was just the fillip we needed before the journey to Parkhead next week. If we can come out of the traps in the same frame of mind we should not return empty handed.
