When we were losing earlier in the season, even when we were unlucky, it was viewed as a sign that we were a poor team that we were struggling.

Now, we have won a few games, we are still a poor team but at least we are showing that we are capable of holding our own in the league. Malpas was getting all kinds of stick earlier and while we still have work to do he deserves credit for turning things around. And things have been turned around there is no doubt about that. We are now in a botton six struggle – after four games we were just on the express to the first division!

Don't you just hate three sided stadia?

The performance at Inverness may not have been brilliant but we got the defence right and that must always be our first priority. Any game, particularly away, that we play without losing a goal is a job well done. Keeping it tight not only guarantees a point but it takes two off whoever we're playing as well and that is vital at ensuring there are plenty of teams in the mix with us. As we saw yesterday having kept ourselves in it, even without threatening, a player like Scott McDonald is always able to snatch something that can turn a draw into a win. The difference in our league position and confidence from having won a tight game like this as opposed to having lost it is huge. We now have an almost free kick at Hearts next week knowing anything there is a bonus.

Of course no one should be fooled into believing we are a great side destined for success or even the top six. It is plain to see that we are not and that we are still in a battle. But just as it is important not to lose the head when we win, should we lose the next couple it is important to remain calm. Two losses will not automatically mean we are destined to go down. We have shown we can fight it out and hold our own, we are not significantly worse than the other weak teams. We will be down there probably until May but the squad will continue to give their best and against similarly poor opposition, their best is quite often good enough. So let's enjoy a great win while we can and take heart from the fact that with injuries hopefully clearing up and a chance to strengthen in January there is every reason for some cautious optimism.
