Inverness:24h on

The conditions in Inverness turned the game into a lottery. Any ball over head height was badly affected by the fierce wind. We started the game facing the blast and for a spell Smith failed to reach the halfway line with his dead ball kicks. There was a bizarre moment towards the end of the first period when Fraser at the other end of the pitch saw his kick hit a wall of wind and return in his direction. At one point all four corner flags were bending away from the centre circle.

What happens next?

At the break Motherwell fans felt that we had done well to reach the sanctuary of the dressing room without loss. Surely we would take control with the wind blowing in our favour? The cunning plan suffered a major blow when Lasley's careless moment allowed Inverness to take the lead minutes into the second half.

The team earned credit for sticking to their task and it was soon apparent that they were the more likely to score the second goal of the game. It was pleasing to see our two big strikers produce the nice footwork which allowed Porter to add to his account for the season. Malcolm played well in defence and topped a good day by delivering a peach of a free kick.

After the match McGhee suggested, with the usual post match diplomacy, that the game could have gone either way. He then entertained the assembled hacks with his tail of strip tease seven-a-side training games in the mud!

It was clear when the fixture rota was revealed that we had to survive a tough start to the season then gather points in games seven to eleven. With three wins from the last four we seem to be on track and a win against Accies on Saturday will set us up nicely for the Old Firm double header which follows.
