Craigan launches one into the box
There were few highlights to give optimists any reason to defend the team. Smith made some good stops and Corrigan and O'Donnell could be excepted from the general criticism. The rest were ‘flat' at best.

The shortage of right sided midfielders in the squad was made clear when the decision to drop McBride (long overdue) resulted in Jim Paterson starting the game on the right wing. After half an hour, by then one down, Terry had to alter the setup by switching Foran to the right and returning Paterson to his usual position on the left.

It was reported before the game that our plan was to go for five wins and the implication was that our best eleven would be expected to deliver.

Many Motherwell fans took a different view and hoped that we would be able to field a few of the younger fringe players in the hope that they might be able to step up at the start of next season. In the wake of the ‘flat' showing at the weekend the latter course of action must become a strong favourite for the four remaining fixtures.

It looks like Terry will have a difficult month or two ahead as he plans for the next campaign. We need a few fresh faces.
