Inverness Preview

Inverness are the sort of stuffy side that performs better away from home. They can sit in to defend then hit on the break. In essence, they are the sort of team we really struggle against at Fir Park. Recent meetings between the clubs suggest there is not too much between the sides and another tight encounter is likely.

We can take confidence from the fact we have turned ourselves into a hard side to beat. Despite still being generous in defence, we have not lost to a time outside the top four since United beat us in August. That is a remarkable record and one we will be hoping to continue. Kevin McBride’s return to the subs bench against Hearts marks a return from a lengthy injury and we will have many options to choose from in midfield. However, with Hammell possibly joining O’Donnell, Leitch and Paterson on the sidelines again it is clear that we are still playing without our full squad available.

Inverness will be well aware of the fact a win will allow them to leapfrog us in the table and they will be confident of taking all three points. They won last seasons Fir Park league match 2-1 and won the previous encounter 1-0 in the Scottish Cup. Craig Dargo seems to be rediscovering his goal scoring touch but Craig Brewster has been choosing to keep himself on the bench recently – not many Motherwell fans will be disappointed if he keeps that up.

The match should be a hard fought if not spectacular affair. There may not be much between the teams but we are better in front of goal and that will give us a narrow edge – 2-0 Motherwell.
