John Sutton joins Motherwell

The 24 year old striker has served many clubs in his relatively short career and he joins us fresh from a year at Wycombe where he worked with Paul Lambert. Motherwell's colours will be the ninth he has worn since he joined Spurs in 2002.

Sutton scored the winner - May 2007

He will be known to most Well fans for his spell at St Mirren from 2005 till 2007. During his spell at Love Street he found the net nine times from around eighty appearances.

Our manager has often said that e sees no point in signing players who add nothing to the current squad. They must be better that what is here at present. We'll know in a few weeks if he improves the squad.

McGhee's principal signings so far, Hughes and Porter have proved to be good moves so Sutton has to reach a high standard to keep the manager's average high.

His last appearance at Fir Park was in May 2007 when St Mirren won a relegation fight as the season ended. Sutton scored a second half double to help the Buddies to a dramatic 3-2 win after a McCormack pair had us two up at the break.

He has a reputation of being a good finisher and excellent at converting crosses. We can only hope that the work ethic which McGhee has introduced will rub off on him. The official site shows him holding the number 11 shirt.

As ever, he'll be entitled to our full support when he pulls on the claret and amber and we wish him well in his time at Fir Park.
