Kilmarnock: 24h on

Stevie Hammell's return was greeted with a round of applause before kick off and again as he thanked the Motherwell support at the end of the game. Although Mark McGhee suggested that he still had to adjust to our style of play his contribution to the win was significant. Hammy's second half free kick was perfectly struck and forced a top class save from the Kilmarnock keeper.

Corrigan and Clarkson

One of the unfortunate consequences of the current system of transfers is that fans rarely get the chance to say farewell to players who deserve a show of appreciation. Jim Paterson's move to
Plymouth is the most recent example and it is difficult to imagine circumstances that would allow him to take a bow at Fir Park. Fortunately Martin Corrigan's move to the Rugby Park outfit meant that his return came within a few weeks of his departure. It was good to see the cheer he got when the second half action placed him close to the home support.

The joy that the late winner brought was doubled when Clarkson charged from the crowded penalty area with his arm in the air. We all know the special significance of the goal and in the celebrations that followed the players almost ended up in the east stand.

There were a couple of thousand Motherwell fans in the south stand who had a perfect view of the dramatic winning goal. Too often in the past any audience lured into the ground with the help of free or cut price entry has been disappointed by a lack lustre show on the park. Those who took advantage of the Free Tickets for Schools scheme must have been thrilled with the dramatic climax. Let's hope they get hooked!
