Kilmarnock Preview

If the wheels haven’t come off our bandwagon quite yet, they have certainly loosened. We can excuse the defeat at Ibrox, disappointing though it was, but the home loss to Inverness was bordering on criminal and while the effort was there against Aberdeen, the finishing definitely wasn’t.

Another large 'Well support will go down the A77 on Saturday
Scott McDonald’s return has boosted the side but he is still not 100% sharp after his layoff. His presence also allowed Terry Butcher to be very attack minded against Aberdeen, with the Aussie joining Clarkson, Foran, McBride and Paterson in the starting line up. That may change on Saturday, either for tactical reasons or simply because Stepover might not have recovered from his groin injury. David Partridge suffered a similar fate although if he cannot make it, presumably Willie Kinniburgh can come in as a straight swap.

Phil O’Donnell may or may not be taken out of the cotton wool depending on his latest injury and there could also be a problem with Kevin McBride. The official site suggests that he ‘thinks’ he can play but this hasn’t been confirmed yet. Should he be ineligible and Paterson and O’Donnell injured, we could be stretched in the midfield.

Kilmarnock
seem like a team very similar to ourselves. They were on a losing run but have turned things around with two wins over Dundee and Inverness. A few weeks ago they were well below us but they have closed to within four points of us in the league. They also have the upper hand in matches between the sides this season, winning the only contest 1-0 at Fir Park.

Neutrals looking at this game may see it as ideal for a draw on the coupon but neither team seem to record too many stalemates. To be honest, it is probably more likely we will play well and win or play poorly and lose than do something in the middle and get a replay. In times like this it’s only right to back the team: Kilmarnock 0-1 Motherwell.
