Kilmarnock Preview

Kilmarnock have made a dream start to the season with a late goal securing a draw against Rangers and a dramatic comeback giving them a win at Tannadice. Four points out of six and a home game against Motherwell coming up – it’s no wonder Killie fans will be rubbing their hands with glee.

But are we likely to be lambs to the slaughter or will we produce another surprise performance? With Motherwell it is always hard to tell and on last weeks’ evidence, we will struggle to keep the score respectable. While playing badly will allow us to steal a draw at home to Thistle, it will probably result in us getting hammered by a football team.

However, Terry Butcher was fairly accurate in describing the Thistle game as the worst under his leadership. It is highly unlikely we will play as poorly again. Jamie McFadden is clearly our star player and he had an off day last week, distracted by all sorts of transfer speculation. Faddy needs to keep his feet on the ground and if he does eventually want to move on to bigger things, he’ll need to be playing well for us.

Daniel Sengewald and Khaled Kemas are still missing with ankle knocks although it is believed that Daniel might be fit for the trip to Tannadice. One player will be returning as Derek Adams is now free from suspension. It is surprising how much value ‘Well fans are placing on Del’s influence and after some good pre-season games, his form should be at its peak.

Adams could theoretically play alongside Dirk Lehmann but it is much more likely that he’ll go into midfield with Kevin McDonald dropping out despite a couple of valiant efforts against Livi and Thistle.

We should know better than to write Motherwell off in any game, but while the players will give their all, Killie will be too strong on the day. A 2-0 home win looks like the best bet.
