Look Back at Thistle

What a guy!
The first goal he scored on Saturday was a belter. He demonstrated some of the skills we have grown to expect. A mazy run past a few defenders before planting a left footed curler into the top corner – and in front of the home fans too!

Unfortunately the team did not settle down after the early goal. We were forced back and had to defend for extended periods. Such was the panic in the rear ranks that any time we had the ball it was launched up field where it was gathered by the Thistle back line. And swiftly returned with renewed threat.

It was only when we were reduced to ten men that there seemed to be any coherence and urgency in our play. We more than held our own, though Thistle’s ineffectiveness greatly assisted is making us look good.

We continue to defend crossed balls poorly. Only Marshall’s confident collection of high crosses in the six yard box attracted pass marks. No doubt TB is aware of this weakness and it seems certain that he and Malpas will be taking steps to make us more secure.

We find ourselves in seventh position in the table with four points from as many games. Given the teams we have faced it must be looked on as a disappointingly low total.

Still, it will not have escaped the notice of many that Dundee United have yet to place a point on the board and that their goal difference is minus eleven.

Hope springs eternal!
