May the window close quietly

Saturday's excellent win will fill Motherwell fans with hope for the season ahead as the new squad grows into an ever more effective force.  Can we keep the boys together until the window closes?

There were top rate performances all over the pitch.  Kipre was a towering strength in defence and his partnership with Heneghan could serve us well for the next few seasons.  Cadden showed again why he is one of the best home grown players of his generation and the Moult-Bowman duo  looks like it could deliver a lot of goals.

Cadden after the win v Hearts

All of which hints at the mass crossing of fingers and rubbing of lucky rabbit's feet in and around Fir Park as the transfer deadline looms.

Stephen Robinson has spent spring and summer not simply refreshing the squad, it has been transformed.  Some old favourites hung up their boots and moved into coaching roles, others were moved on by various routes and new faces flooded into the club.

We have a bigger and better squad that last season but the gems in the dressing room are Moult and Cadden.

Moult joined in June 2015 from Wrexham and has averaged better that a goal every two games.  His wonderful winner against Hearts is number forty in that distinguished list.  Let’s not forget he is also a provider, his knock down allowed Bowman to score the equaliser on Saturday.

The club stood firm against bids that undervalued him earlier in the window and we have to hope that no realistic offer appears before the deadline.

Cadden came through the youth ranks at Fir Park before making his debut in claret and amber toward the end of season 2013/14.  Now the 20 year old is a fixture in the team with a contract that binds him to Motherwell until 2019.  He has played for the Scotland U21 side and is part of the squad who face the Netherlands next week.

While his striking colleague has claimed most of the headlines Motherwell fans recognise the contribution made to the team by this home-grown youngster.  His growing strength combined with his pace from the middle of the park will be a major factor in our season’s success.  Buyers beware, he will not leave cheaply.

There will be a sigh of relief in Lanarkshire if the transfer window listings omit any mention of Motherwell.
