McCart leaves Motherwell

We have known for some months that Chris was on his way to Parkhead but the sad loss of Tommy Burns meant that his move was not given the higher profile it might have deserved.

McCart's contribution to Motherwell over the years has been immense. He made around 260 first team appearances and was a rock in our defence. He is one of the 1991 cup winning heroes and was the club captain who led us into Europe after Tom Boyd's departure.

He left during McLeish's reign and joined Falkirk for a while before developing his skills as a coach. He was one of the Celtic coaching staff when called back to Fir Park to work with George Adams in our youth development programme.

Chris assumed an even greater role at the club during the period of administration when he worked alongside Butcher and Malpas to steer us through troubled times.

He delivered a touching tribute at O'Donnell's funeral last appeared in claret and amber at Phil's Tribute match, fittingly at Parkead. He leaves with our best wishes and many will hope that there is still time for him to return to Motherwell in the future in some capacity.
