Mo on Show

As these things go it must have been one of the shortest events in the club's history. It lasted for less than ten minutes before everyone trooped off to the pitch to allow photo opportunities and individual interviews to take place.

The formal introductions

John Boyle introduced the man of the moment and Maurice expressed his delight and honour at the appointment. The contrast to his predecessor's verbose style was very marked. Where Terry would talk for minutes when invited, it seems that Mo's style will be very short and to the point.

All pals together

When pressed for more he volunteered, “I intend to match and better Terry's efforts. The continuity should make it a relatively easy transition”. He made it clear that he would continue in his role with the national U21 squad and stated that the club (and he) felt that it would improve his abilities as a coach.

Maurice has signed a three year deal and an announcement about a second in command will follow, though it seems unlikely that this will be in the next few days. Chris McCart will continue in his present role.

John Boyle reinforced Maurice's point and hoped that the stability on the management side would extend itself to the pitch. He urged fans to get behind the new manager by buying season tickets. When asked about expectations he put his arm on Mo's shoulder and said, “No pressure – we're looking to be in the top six”.

Everyone then removed themselves from the boardroom for the obligatory photocalls and interviews. The atmosphere was very low key, casual and friendly.

Good luck Maurice!
