Motherwell AGM 109 held at Fir Park

Last updated : 26 February 2015 By Firparkcorner

Brian McCafferty took the chair and introduced the other four board members present before moving on to the formal business.

Several points were raised about the club's finances and a discussion followed about the recent change of owner.  The plan, as already outlined in recent statements from the club and Society is that Les Hutchison has purchased John Boyle's shares (for a nominal £1) and his intention is to facilitate a transition to the Well Society after 5 years.  During that period he will makes loans to the club (£650k already delivered) and assist in overhauling the management processes at Fir Park.  The club and Society will be responsible for repayment of the loan.

It was made clear that if the community ownership plan would succeed only if fans joined and supported the Society.

Ian Baraclough gave an overview of the playing side of the business.  He argued that youth development was "bright" and that he understood the need to develop and sell players.  The recruitment section has been rebuilt with new chief scout and two assistants all based in England together with a further pair in Scotland.  In addition there are a number of youth scouts operating on an expenses only basis.

Only eight players have contracts that extend into next season and work is already underway to identify likely targets.

The manager is "very, very pleased" at the signing of Scott McDonald and he suggested that Pearson would be involved on Saturday.  Vigurs and Lawson are still on the long term injury list but Francis-Angol has started to train.

The players' daily routine has changed.  It now has an earlier start and a pre-training session.  Work on strength, tactical analysis, mental preparation, individual work and well as yoga are all included.

The performance and fitness staff are now in place and one effect should be a reduction in the number of costly medical procedures that have taken place in the last year.

Alan Burrows indicated that the identification of a marketing manager was almost complete and an appointment should be made soon.

Meeting ended leaving the opportunity for more informal chat.
