Motherwell and Cowdenbeath have a agreed a Cooperation Agreement to enhance the development of young players.

The SFA sponsored initiative allows a more flexible loan arrangement between clubs and should ensure that some of our Academy graduates experience first team action.  The first to benefit from the move are defender Scott Williamson (18) and forward Nathan Lawson (17).

Talks between the fifth tier Lowland League side and Motherwell have been taking place for some time and Tuesday’s announcement is the result.

Brian Caldwell on the MFC website commented, “Without the constraints of standard loan agreements, players can play minutes within a first-team environment, which will only aid their development, but the chance of playing for Motherwell remains.”

Colin Nelson, the Blue Brazil’s  Director of Football Operations, said I'm absolutely delighted to confirm we have entered into a co-op agreement with Premiership club Motherwell. It's something we have worked on throughout the pre-season. Motherwell as a club really are at the forefront in Scottish Football in developing young talent. We are really delighted they have chosen to collaborate with us in this venture.”

Several of these agreements have been agreed:

Aberdeen - Kelty Hearts (League One), Elgin City (League Two)

Celtic - Ayr United (Championship)

Heart of Midlothian - Spartans (League Two)

Hibernian - East Kilbride (League Two)

Kilmarnock - Queen of the South (League One), Annan Athletic (League Two), Albion Rovers (Lowland League)
