Alex Smith signs his new book
A launch was held in Hamilton on Saturday as the new book went on sale in WH Smiths. Backing up the author were Willie Pettigrew and Alex Burns. They were kept busy signing dedications as the books kept the tills rattling. At £14.99 this looks like the Christmas present of choice for ‘Well fans everywhere.

Alex Smith came to be a ‘Well fan in the same way as thousands of local youngsters. His father and uncle had watched the champions in the thirties and they introduced him to Fir Park in the early fifties. He was hooked and in recent years he has become a gatherer of facts and figures about the Mighty ‘Well. His speciality is the pre-war era and he made a contribution to that past of John Swinburne’s ‘History of the Steelmen’.

The book details how the twenty five year Old Firm monopoly of the title was broken and concludes with a substantial statistical section. It is required reading for those who value the history of the club and we have to be grateful to Alex for his efforts in recording the great achievement of the team.

The book is available from WH Smiths in Hamilton and direct from the publishers, Desert Island Books, where orders can be placed online.
