Motherwell face Morton in cup fifth round

This is obviously a brilliant draw for us but we can take nothing for granted.  The first target in any cup draw is to avoid the Old Firm and we have done that but we have suffered enough upsets to know a strong performance is needed to progress.

We have not lost to Morton in any competition since 1983 and they have not knocked us out of the Scottish Cup since 1922.  We last faced them in this tournament in 2007 when goals from Scott McDonald and Brian Kerr eased our passage to the quarter finals.

With Morton being slap bang in the middle of the First Division, they have little distraction in terms of meaningful league fixtures and will hope to define their season through their cup run.  For us, this fixture is another very winnable match in a run of crucial ties which could well prove decisive in setting the tone for the second half of our own campaign.

The tie will take place on the weekend of February 4/5th.

The full draw is as follows:

Hibs v Dundee or Kilmarnock

Motherwell v Morton

St Mirren or Hamilton v Ross County

Inverness or Dunfermline v Celtic

Ayr United v Falkirk

Rangers v Dundee United

Hearts v St Johnstone

Aberdeen v Queen of the South
