Motherwell v Celtic Postponed

Steamy days at Fir Park
The late, late decision will have disappointed the thousands of fans who were converging on the stadium with less than an hour to go.

Iain Brines declared that the game could go ahead in the afternoon but more rain followed (as widely forecast). Referee Richmond called it off less than an hour before the kick off.

Those who were in Motherwell and the surrounding area were expecting a cancellation. The sad aspect of the whole mess is that the decision should have been taken earlier. We could all read the forecast - could the referee?

The game, originally scheduled for January 6 will provide another headache for the SPL planners as they try to fit another game into the busy spring schedule.

Motherwell have now to focus on Saturday's fifth round cup tie against Dundee and hope that the pitch can recover. The Met Office have a series weather warnings for areas including Fir Park in force from Wednesday all the way to Saturday. It doesn't look likely that we'll see any football this week.
