Motherwell v Hamilton - CIS Preview

Over twenty five years have passed since the teams played in a league fixture but in more recent times we met in the Scottish cup in 1997. At that time the Accies were homeless and the replay took place at Broadwood (and we won 2-0) and we met them in a pre season friendly on Fair Saturday 2003 at their new ground.

They have since moved up to the First Division and after three games (a win, loss and draw) lie midway in the table. A goalless draw against Ross County was their preparation for Tuesday’s encounter and that may be a clue to the outcome of the game.

Their problem is in scoring goals (and we know where our difficulties lie!). Although we have half a team unavailable through injury and suspension (Craigan) there should be enough firepower available to score a few.

McDonald could cause havoc in a defence unfamiliar with his pacy twists and turns. We looked very good in attack on Saturday and surely will score a few.

Of course, the trick will be to concede at least one less than the forwards can score at the other end - something we failed to do on Saturday. But how is Terry going to convert the shambles of a back four into a leak free zone? There could be a drawing of lots to fill the rear rank!

The last time the teams met

There should be no need for extra time and penalties. On our home turf, despite our manpower problems, we should not be troubled by the Accies. 3-1 to the ‘Well.
