Despite the large investment in undersoil heating over the summer months the club is in the embarrassing position of having to explain why this highly anticipated game cannot take place as scheduled.
It has been suggested that there may have been a failure of the heating system on Friday night. Overnight temperatures in Lanarkshire were certainly below freezing but this postponement will have caught thousands of fans by surprise.
No doubt the reasons will be made clear in time but meanwhile the club will have to count the cost of the loss of a big Saturday gate and the associated expense of a late call off. Police, stewards and catering come to mind immediately as one way expenses.
