Motherwell welcome Ross County to Fir Park

Both sides have Scottish Cup replays next week but the prize for this encounter is valuable league points.  Motherwell still carry the burden of indifferent home form with only one win from eight attempts while the Staggies have managed just the one win on the road.   The form book suggests that the home team may have the edge, unbeaten in the last four,  compared to County's two draws and two losses.  Still, a tight game is likely.

Welcome to the SPL

The visitors were a bit of an unknown quantity when we travelled north at the beginning of August but it soon became apparent that they were unlikely to be favourites for the drop.  In his six years with Motherwell Derek Adams made close to 160 appearances in claret and amber so he knows his way around the top flight.   Tokley and Kovacevic bring experience to their defence and we'll see another of our former players in their goal, either Brown or Fraser.

One 'keeper who will miss the game will be Randolph.  He'll complete his two game ban and as a result Hollis will hope to follow his good display at Pittodrie with another in front of his home crowd.  The ten in from of Hollis will almost certainly be unchanged unless Hutchinson is declared fit, otherwise we can assume Cummins and Kerr will be the central pairing.

It's likely that we'll have to work hard to break down a team that would be happy to take a point from the game - not our strongest suit.   However, our home form has to improve soon (surely!) and the forwards have been making lots of scoring opportunities.  A home win can be backed at 6/5 and it looks like a good offer, a 1-0 score will bring the pennies home.

Have your say on the messageboard.
