Motherwell Win Cup Final Rehearsal

CIS, the cup sponsors, organised a ‘Youth Cup Final’ between two teams representing Motherwell and Rangers. Brannock had the honour of playing in claret and amber while Castlemilk Secondary played in blue.

We won the cup!

The game was played in a persistent drizzle at Almondvale and both sets of first year pupils set to their task after running out through the tunnel. An early morning raid on the Fir Park shop ensured that the Motherwell team looked the part and they were kitted out from head to toe in replica strips.

Before the game

We took command of the game with three goals without reply in the first half. Two wonderful drives from Brennan, both from outside the box, gave us the confidence to take control. We were solid in defence though and Bone was called on to make several important saves. The best move of the match delivered the third goal just before the break.

First half action

It started just inside the Rangers half and Brannan passed to Smith. He sent in a fierce cross after a deft one-two with Stirling and the keeper parried. Gaughan collected the loose ball and finished from close in.

The opposition scored midway through the second spell before Brennan powered into the box to provide a tap in for McCall. Moments later the fifth arrived when the keeper got the ball tangled under his feet and Gaughan pounced for his second. He completed his hat trick after a fine dribble through the box before Rangers collected a consolation on the final whistle.

The game was played in a fine sporting spirit and both teams enjoyed the experience of the ‘big time’ atmosphere created by the staff at Livingston and by the CIS representatives who organised the event.
