James McFadden would have been disappointed not to make an appearance against Iceland but he made an impact last night against Ghana U21s. According to Radio Five Live, Faddy played his part in setting up Gary Caldwell for the opening goal. Brian Kerr doubled our lead before half time and McFadden was taken off with a view to resting him before tonight’s exertions at Easter Road. Stevie Hammell has also recovered from injury and started the match.

Terry Butcher has been linked with the vacant manager’s position at Ipswich. So far however, he has said he is happy to stay at Motherwell – but then he would say that wouldn’t he? To be honest, if Terry did move south, particularly to Ipswich, no ‘Well fan could have any complaints. It would obviously be a massive boost to our young team if we managed to hang on to him though.

Early team news for Saturday suggests that Neil McCann and Shota Arveladze will both miss out with hamstring injuries. For us, Scott Leitch is yet again doubtful and Stephen Pearson will also be a worry.

We are scouting a young striker who plays for Inverurie Locos, Stuart McKay. He was their top scorer in season 2001/2 and seems to be a promising youngster. If he signs, let’s hope he makes more of an impact than Martin Wood.
