Next up - Aberdeen

Given the impressive start that Motherwell made in the early part of the season some optimists fancied that we would beat St Johnstone and possibly Hibs and that we would be facing the Dons to complete a marvellous trio.  The harsh reality is that we were awful last weekend and lost again on Tuesday despite an improvement in form.

Saturday’s game against Aberdeen will provide the biggest test of the season so far for Stuart McCall and his merry men.  We need the win to put an end to a three game losing streak and to prevent a probable slide down the table.

The manager posted his team early before the midweek cup game saying “I have confidence in them and so we will start with the same line-up.”    Will he give them another chance?  His options are limited by the size of the squad but Daley, Page and McHugh must come into consideration.

Watch out Craig...JB's about!

Our opponents are not having the best of times either but in comparison we are in clover.  Despite the best efforts of Brown and Knox,  Aberdeen have won only one SPL game this season (they beat ICT a month ago) and just to make a bad start worse they managed to get ejected from the League Cup by East Fife.  The crowd at Pittodrie was under 4,000 on Tuesday night – confirmation of the troubles in the Granite City.

The manner of the appointment of the Aberdeen management team remains an irritation not only in the Motherwell board room but also with the Fir Park faithful and the players will be well aware of it.  They know that a spirited showing against a poor Aberdeen side will get us back on track and with the help of a decent home crowd we should manage it.  The bookies have us odds on favourites and an investment in a 2-1 win might bring some reward.
