Football returns to Fir Park on Saturday when Motherwell and Falkirk meet for the first time in more than fifteen years.

‘Well fans will take their seats for only the second 3pm Saturday kick off this season hoping that they see a second league win.

Motherwell suffered a first defeat just before the international break when Celtic scored in added time at Parkhead.  That followed five draws and a win against Aberdeen for a current total of eight points.

Regan Charles-Cook and Tawanda Maswanhise were far travelled on international duty and (subject to Maswanhise accessing his travel documents) they should be fit for duty on Saturday.

Apostolos Stamatelopoulos scored twice against Celtic yet was cruelly on the losing side.  He led the ‘Well line with energy and little reward in the opening games of the season, maybe the door is opening for a more productive run.

Falkirk have had an encouraging start although they have lost half of their eight fixtures to date.  A win against Aberdeen and three draws place them a couple behind Motherwell.

The last time they were at Fir Park the pitch was more like a sandy wasteland than the present day pristine surface that should suit the style of both parties.

A fair proportion of their team have made the journey from League One and under John McGlynn’s charge they continue to deliver.  By all accounts they were unlucky not take three points from their meeting with Rangers last outing.

Former ‘Well youngster Ross McIver has a couple of league goals to his credit while Brian Graham and Scott Arfield continue to play into their late thirties.

Both teams favour the ball on the ground and a potential treat might enfold. Motherwell should be strengthened by the return of one or more from recovery and that should tip the balance in their favour, 2-1.
