No game at Fir Park

The teams had gone through their pre-match routines, the crowd was in place and everything looked set for an entertaining game in fine weather and on a perfect pitch.  The players were returning to the changing rooms for their last minute instructions when the standby generator sited between the Cooper and O'Donnell stands fired up.

Disappointed fans trudge home

Clouds of exhaust from the diesel motor drifted across the pitch as the crowd got its first indication that something was amiss.  A ten minute to the kick off started but there was no PA system available to inform the fans. The United players came out for a kick-about and soon turned to their fans to thank them for making a fruitless journey.

Fans left the ground and collected vouchers for the re-match.  As is normal in these circumstances, the match will have a far bigger attendance at the second attempt!

Leeann Dempster was soon on the radio keen to stress that the failure was beyond the club's control.  The power outage was outside the ground and the estimated time of repair was 3 hours.  With limited power available the decision to cancel the game was inevitable.

The feeling of being let down is one shared by all concerned but it must be worse for the players - all fired up and nowhere to go!

Any thoughts for the messageboard?
