No Game for Motherwell this Weekend

The offer was made by Kilmarnock well before the CIS semi final but the prospect of a Saturday game didn’t tempt Terry Butcher. Jeffries commented at the time that he understood that Terry had to look after Motherwell’s interests. What has not been made clear is Butcher’s reasoning for preferring a midweek date over a traditional Saturday meeting.

It may be that he took the view that we would need time to recover after the efforts at Hampden on Wednesday night. But the same interval will then feature between the Wednesday game at Rugby Park and the Dundee United meeting at Fir Park on Saturday 11 February.

It could be that he prefers to play under floodlights or that he feels we will have an advantage in front of the smaller midweek crowd.

The fans would have preferred the traditional Saturday fixture for all the usual reasons but we must submit to the judgement of the manager. All will be forgiven if we take three points on Wednesday.
