No Goals in Dunfermline

Despite using 20 outfield players in Thursday’s friendly Motherwell were unable to find the net at East End Park and the final pre-season warm-up game finished Dunfermline 0 Motherwell 0.

Motherwell kicked off with their backs to the travelling support and the low sun in the face of Gillespie but the glare caused no problem for the ‘keeper as Dunfermline were unable to test our man during the opening half.

Robinson was well tested in the home goal as our men tried their luck.  Rose had a shot saved, Main’s attempt was blocked for a corner, Cadden’s cross was cut out with a leaping save and Dunne’s header was held.  In addition several more opportunities came our way but they were off target.

We made three changes at the break.  Bowman, Donnelly and Cadden made way for Johnson, Maguire and Gorrin.  Frear set up McHugh with an early chance but the header was wide then Main came close with a shot.

Dunfermline won their first corner of the evening in 51 minutes, an indication of the flow of the game.  A further four changes followed with 25 minutes remaining – Rose, Dunne, Campbell and Frear left as Turnbull, Kipré, Hartley and Taylor-Sinclair were given a chance to find the net.

Gillespie was called into action when a trialist got on the end of a Longridge low cross but the block kept his goal intact.  On 75 minutes Tait and McHugh were replaced by Grimshaw and Bigirimana and substitution number ten came when Main was replaced by Scott.
