Postponement - Good or Bad?

There are definite advantages in having a rest this mid-week. Livingston were also given a break and while it’s unlikely that one match would make a difference, we need to be able to match them fitness wise on Saturday. The injuries to Leitch and Lehmann will be given a few more days to heal and if they are able to play against the Franchise, it will give us a huge boost. Stephen Pearson seemed to have played with an injury at Ibrox and the more time he spends in cotton wool the better as far as we’re concerned.

However, it seems that there is more on the downside regarding the game being called off. David Partridge, who has been solid at the back, will now be unavailable for both the Livingston and Partick Thistle games. Our defence has not been great this season and Daniel Sengewald has a lot of work still to do if he is to convince the ‘Well support he is good enough. Given the choice, it would probably be safer if we could give Senge a run in the cup before playing him in a relegation crunch.

The postponement also means that almost a month will have passed since McFadden played in the Claret and Amber. While some international duty will have kept him on his toes, he will take time to adjust to playing with his team-mates. The longer he goes without a game, presumably the longer it will take him to get back into the swing of things.

The game has been postponed and there is nothing we can do about it. So, we might as well make the most of it. Don’t be surprised if Terry Butcher is cursing in his office though….
