Preview: Aberdeen (h)

There is no point in taking a low key approach to this game. Mark McGhee has been talking of this as our 'cup final' for weeks. John Boyle said on Wednesday that coming third would be a "monumental achievement". The fans have been speculating for weeks on possible outcomes to the season but all are agreed that this is a 'must win' game. So, no pressure lads!

This season has been productive so far as matches against Aberdeen are concerned. In our unbeaten three league games we have taken seven points to date. Quinn, Porter, McCormack (2), McGarry and Darren Smith have all scored and we have conceded only twice.

In the last few games the manager has used several formations but the betting might be that he'll return to his favoured 4-3-3 for this one. Any defence faced with Clarkson, Porter and McCormack should be kept busy. Quinn will be missing but we will be content to see McLean on the right of defence. His recent performances have impressed.

Our opponents have surprised many (not least their fans) in the last few weeks. They have beaten both Hibs and Dundee United, both at Pittodrie, and we thank them for that. Their intervention has been vital in helping Motherwell retaining third spot in the table.

Diamond is suspended but Calderwood will send out a team that knows they still have an outside chance of snatching the prize. They would need help from others but they know at a win is needed to keep their slim hopes alive.. Everything points to a cup tie atmosphere.

All we can do now is turn up in numbers and cheer the boys on to a vital win. The sun will shine and we'll win 2-0.
