Preview: Rangers (h)

The results from last weekend have allowed Motherwell to prepare for this fixture, crucial to the outcome of the league, knowing that we have already gained a Uefa Cup place with two games to spare. By an amazing coincidence we face a team which is still recovering from defeat in the final of the same competition in Manchester.

Rangers can guarantee the league title by winning their last three games but any slip would give the advantage to their great rivals. We handed the title to them in that memorable game in May 2005 and now we have the chance to restore the balance.

Of the current squad only Craigan, Fitzpatrick and Clarkson played in that league decider and they could be included in the team on Saturday. Malcolm is suspended and the disgraced Quinn is injured otherwise there is a decent complement available for selection.

We were unlucky not to take all three points when Rangers were at Fir Park on league business in September. Porter scored in the first half and it took a penalty from Boyd in the second to steal a point.

How will the visitors react after their midweek exertions? They surely have a big enough squad to cope with any physical or mental exhaustion and we cannot fall into the trap of assuming that they will wilt.

Both teams are likely to send out attacking formations and the play could rage from end to end. We have nothing to lose and there every prospect of us scoring but we are likely to concede too resulting in a 1-1 draw.
