Preview: Dundee United (h)

Clarkson is available
The lunchtime kick off and live TV coverage will do nothing to increase the gate but the outcome of this fixture will have such significance that both sets of fans will be keen to give their favourites full backing. A loss will almost kill off United's hopes while a win for Motherwell will put us firmly in control of the Uefa cup sprint.

Home advantage has been decisive in the three earlier meetings this season. United recorded 1-0 and 2-0 wins at Tannadice while Motherwell put on a dazzling show in December to beat United 5-3 on that terrible day when Phil O'Donnell collapsed in front of the visitor's stand. The reaction of the United fans and players to the tragic event earned the respect of all at Motherwell but that will be laid aside for the ninety minutes on Saturday.

Motherwell have no reported injuries and with Clarkson returning after suspension there is a full squad available for Mark McGhee. He changed our set up as the season progressed and it might be that he elects to keep McCormack on the bench while playing Malcolm in a holding midfield position.

The Tangerines last victory was over us in March and they have taken only two points from their last three games. We have taken six points in the last three.

Kalvenes will be missing from the left back slot and it could be that Kenneth will be preferred to Dods in the back line. Young Swanson, who scored against us with his first touch in the last meeting, will be suspended.

A loss for Motherwell would not end our hopes of European competition next season but they would be severely hampered. Both sides need the win and a cup tie atmosphere is likely. With any luck home advantage and a vocal home support should help us to a 2-1 win.
