Preview: Kilmarnock (h)

The main drama of the day will be in Inverness where ICT and Falkirk will play out a do or die relegation battle.  In contrast, the lunchtime atmosphere at Fir Park will be much more relaxed.  Motherwell are destined to finish in 7th place and our guests will be 8th.  Both managers will have next season’s campaign in mind and there is every chance that some of the fringe players will take centre stage.

The news that Shaun Hutchison and Jonathan Page have been given two year contracts might give an indication that at least one of them gets a jersey on Saturday.  Hutchison had a hugely impressive debut at Hamilton last week and he might start alongside either Craigan or Reynolds.

Kilmarnock raised themselves above the bottom pack with their win over Inverness last week. The only goal of the game came from the saviour, Kevin Kyle.  He has raked in four goals in the last three games and he should provide a real challenge for any young defender that we wish to test.

With any luck this will be the last game we see on a desperately poor pitch at Fir Park.  The dismantling will begin on Sunday and we are promised that all will be well come the new season.  If we are to have a chance of European football on it in a few months then it is important that fans heed the club’s pleas not to have the usual last day rush onto the pitch after the game.  It’s not often that fans can have a direct influence on European qualification but it is a real opportunity on this occasion.

This will be the 46th competitive game of the season.  Let’s go out with a flourish and a 2-1 win.
