Preview- Dunfermline (h)

Of course, this is yet another chance for Butcher to play some youngsters but in our previous bottom half games so far he has not taken the opportunity. Considering he has now announced the list of kids being released – and stated those kept on would be first squad challengers – it would be disappointing in the extreme if we don't see any of the next generation get a chance.

While the kids are the future it was interesting to see Phil O'Donnell put in a solid display last week and that gives us heart that he might still make a contribution next season. The captain's arm band seems to suit him well so that could be one less decision Terry has to make for the next campaign!

Dunfermline, League Cup apart, have had another disappointing season but with low budgets it is difficult to see them making too much progress over the close season. With their current set of players anything less than a win for us would be a let down although we'll have to watch out for Mark Burchill who, in his recent games at least, is starting to show that he can be a danger.

The result doesn't matter but it is always nicer to get three more points on the board. The main thing is that we give some kids a run and hopefully we can build up some confidence for next season into the bargain. Time to be optimistic – 3-1 Motherwell!
