Queen of the South Preview

Meetings between the teams have been rare – there have only ever been 52, with us winning 30 – and we have to go back to 1981/2 for the last time Queens visited Fir Park. We won 2-1 on that day but in the last cup meeting between the sides, they beat us 2-0 at Palmerston in 1980.

Confidence will be slightly shaky in the home dressing room come Saturday. Whilst we have been playing okay recently, we are struggling to find the back of the net. We have only scored in one of our last eight league games although we did manage to stick three past St Johnstone in a convincing cup win.

Gordon Marshall should be fit to start in goals and there might even be a place for Stevie Craig on the bench. David Partridge is still out with an injury.

The Queens fans seem slightly anxious about their defence – a sure fire sign they’ll play like legends against us – but if we can keep things tight at the back, we must surely be able to scrape past a First Division side. It will be tense, it will close but we will edge it 1-0.
