Quiet night for McFadden

It would be very harsh to make a judgement on McFadden’s performance tonight. Certainly no one else in the side did anything of note and it would be unfair to single out Faddy for special criticism. He did manage to beat a few players but by and large he had a quiet night.

The only time his temper threatened to get him into bother was when he went down in the box under pressure from an Austrian defender.

If we get relegated this year, McFadden will definitely leave. However, if we manage to survive then Faddy’s quiet performances on the international scene may persuade the vultures to refrain from making an offer quite yet.

Dundee United goalkeeper Paul Gallagher made a horrendous mistake to gift Austria their second goal of the night. After being involved in the mix up which cost United a point at the weekend, Gallagher’s confidence must now be very shaky indeed.

Stevie Hammell was withdrawn from the U21 squad on Tuesday night to protect his injured hand. Stephen Pearson played ninety minutes but struggled to make an impact in a 1-0 win over Austria’s U21s.
