It was fascinating to watch our 3-1-5-1 shape cause frustration and concern to the forty eight thousand home fans packed into Ibrox. The tactic worked well in that first period and we reached the break without loss. The back three looked to be at ease with the formation and Malcolm was able to play in his preferred position just in front of them.

Scott wins the lottery?

The five midfielders were strung across the park and at times we had a man on each touchline, Lappin on the left and Lasley on the right. We exploited the space on the big pitch well. Although we failed to take any of our very few scoring chances we left comfortable in the knowledge that a one goal defeat had done little harm to our goal difference and that our hopes of a third place finish remain intact.

McGhee has used sixteen players in the last couple of games and made three substitutions in each. His reasoning is that the players need to be fresh for the cruch game against Aberdeen. He pointed out after the game that Aberdeen have had a free midweek and that our two games were "big from a physical and mental point of view". Still, the prize on offer to the winners on Saturday should be enough to produce a surge of energy.

Motherwell have three games remaining; Aberdeen (h), Rangers (h) and Hibs (a), while our rivals have two. There's plenty to play for and no reason no to be optimistic.
