Reserves: Motherwell lose to Dunfermline

Dunfermline rarely threatened in the first half although they did have a couple of half hearted efforts easily saved by Ewings. John Paul Grant and David Keogh were both looking good in midfield but the main threat was coming from Jim Paterson. He forced their ‘keeper into two good saves and he also thudded the bar with a superb looping header.

Also looking lively for Motherwell was Steven MacGuire. He needs to bulk up a bit possibly but he showed a good first touch, quick feet and held the ball up well. His goal bound shot at the start of the second half was only blocked by the despairing lunge of a defender. The Pars goal came from a ‘Well attack – John Kane had a solid game at right back but let his man skip the length of the park down the wing. The cross was dummied and eventually met by Finn who drove past Ewings. This knocked the stuffing out of us and it took us a while to regain our composure. Hristov could have made it two but was offside when he tapped home a rebound.

Eventually we began to press and
Paterson came close twice. One curling effort was just beyond the far post and another good hit was tipped over the bar. Keogh might have done better with a back post header but he could only head wide.

So, it will have been a disappointing loss for the side but we can be heartened by a very good performance and the emergence of yet more promising kids. And if Stepover can take this form into the big team, we’ll be onto a very good thing!
