Ross County - 24h on

Saturday’s point all but guaranteed Motherwell’s place in next season’s Premiership.  In an afternoon short of entertainment the hardy band of travellers from Lanarkshire could take comfort that league safety was assured.

It was a well contested affair though short on the finer points of the game.  Both sides were quick to challenge for possession and players were given little opportunity for composure.

The contest was tough but legal although there were several stoppages to allow the magic sponges time to work.  Unfortunately more than a rub may be needed for Andy Rose.  An awkward tumble resulted in the midfielder take his weight on his shoulder and although he returned to the fray after treatment he had to be withdrawn with a suspected break in the collar bone.

Andy Rose

McHugh had not been included in the starting eleven as the manager fielded the same line-up that had delivered last week’s semi-final win but the captain was available to replace Rose.

Both teams had half chances to break the deadlock but Robinson admitted after the match that a draw was not unfair.

A debut was given to James Scott as the game ended.  The tall striker barely had time to work up a sweat but it was encouraging to see another product of the Academy turn out for the first team.  Surely he will get more game time in the four remaining league fixtures.

Away support

We have three at home and one away before the campaign ends at Hampden.  The season has already exceeded expectations and we have the luxury of a few games free of the pressure that has been a regular feature in recent years.  Next up is Dundee and a chance to ensure we strengthen our grip in seventh place.
