The Serbian coach was satisfied their point and suggested that the home team had lost two.  Meanwhile, our leader was disappointed that we did not take the opportunities we created and he felt we had done enough to have won the game.

Serbs start with a six man forward line

Although the 0-0 score suggests that the teams were fairly evenly matched the difference in styles was marked.  Just as Motherwell discovered when facing Greek and Spanish opponents, teams from across the channel are able to keep the ball.  Their technical skills allow spells of possession that are rarely seem in the SPL and they were certainly not on show from the Scotland team.  And that’s not to suggest that the Serbs are the best team in the group.

Scotland’s starting eleven had only Hearts’ Webster as a representative of our domestic league – changed days from the era when the SFA set its face against those who choose to play the game south of the border.  And we even had the rare chance to cheer a player from Vancouver Whitecaps (Miller).

Next up is the game against Macedonia on Tuesday.  We’re in the last chance saloon already!
