Scottish Cup - St Johnstone Preview

If we show the same spirit which turned around the one goal deficit against Dundee last weekend then we should make progress in the competition. Clarkson’s wonderful hat trick stole the show but it was backed up by excellent support work from the rest of the team.

In contrast, St Johnstone were two up last Saturday (goals from Peter MacDonald and Mixu Paatelainen) against Brechin. A second half collapse to the bottom team in the division led to a 2-2 draw. Their confidence must have been shaken by that result and Billy Stark will do his best to raise their expectations.

Scott McDonald (thanks to Evenflow for the pic)
Scott McDonald will be included in the squad. He played in the U21 game at Fir Park on Wednesday afternoon and impressed. Whisper it, but Terry Butcher (and others) have likened him to a young Arnott! Now that would be something to get excited about.

Phil O’Donnell will have fond memories of the ‘Well in former cup campaigns and what better talisman to take on the team bus up the A9 than a man who scored in the ’91 final. Will he take his medal on the bus to inspire the youngsters? Will the cup final video be entertaining the squad on the way to the ground?

A healthy contingent should make the trip and there should be no need for a replay (pencil in Tuesday 20th just in case). 2-0 for the Mighty ‘Well.

Remember the 3rd round of the Cup last season?

Have you posted a prediction yet?
