SPL Delay Decision

The BBC reports that Ian Blair, the SPL secretary, has met with the management at Brockville and informed them of the position.

If St Johnstone were to win the title and hence secure nomination to the SPL then they would gain promotion as their ground meets the current SPL criteria – and one team would be relegated from the SPL. If either Falkirk or Inverness CT win the title then the SPL would have to make a judgement about the suitability of their stadia – at the moment neither team matches up to SPL requirements.

It seems inconceivable that the rules could be changed in retrospect. All the teams in the SFL are aware of the 10 000 seat rule and while most observers question the sense of the current regulation, there seems to be little justification for an alteration mid season (or even more bizarrely after the season has ended).

The Inverness team have asked for a meeting with the SPL to discuss entry requirements for the league and it looks as though they will hear the same answer as Falkirk were given today – basically, ‘win your league first and then we’ll discus your case’.
