St Johnstone - 24h on

Motherwell fans had to endure another episode at the Hard Luck Cafe as we failed to take anything from Saturday's game against St Johnstone.  It's a series that must end soon.

A look at the highlights package on MFC TV (not necessarily completely unbiased!) revealed a fairly one sided game so far as the balance of attacking play was concerned.  The big difference was that the visitors made the best of a couple of defensive mistakes and scored twice.

Skippy scored one, missed one!

We had several excellent goal scoring chances but took only one.  The cruel sight of Bowman's goal bound header coming off the post then running along the goal line was a sad end to the game.  If only the fans in the Cooper Stand had managed a simultaneous intake of breath, the ball could have been sucked across the line.  Even a well placed divot might have helped but the perfect pitch was not our friend.

But tales of 'what might have been' do nothing for our league position.  There has not been a 'Well win at Fir Park since we beat Partick Thistle in mid-November.  In 2017 we have the depressing sight of 2 wins and 8 defeats on our results page - relegation form without doubt.

The only positive spin that can be extracted from our last few months is that we have taken points from our fellow strugglers.  Wins against Inverness, Ross County and Kilmarnock and the Hogmany point in Hamilton have kept our heads above water, just.

The season has been interrupted with a number of international breaks and the one coming next weekend will give several of our regulars some respite.  We'll need a fully fit squad as the business end of the season arrives.  Next up is another trip to Ibrox on 1 April.  Happy days.
