It was a pity that the unfortunate happenings toward the end of the game allowed the spotlight to move from our hat-trick hero. Higdon’s clinical finishing, his second triple and 16th of the season, as well as his many defensive clearances, made him the clear choice for the Man of the Match award.
Our opponents had the majority of possession and matched us in attacking attitude. The difference was that we had a striker who took his chances. He was ably supported by Humphrey for the first, Ojamaa for the second (with a fortunate rebound) and he reacted instinctively for the third.
It’s not unreasonable to hope that our number 9 might reach the giddy heights of 20+ goals in a season when we failed to make progress in any cup competition. A quick look at the record books suggests he could better the likes of McFadden, Coyne, Porter, Coyle or McDonald. In fact we have to go back to Irvine and Pettigrew to find season totals in the 20s. We may be in the presence of greatness!
Any weaknesses there are in his game are surely excused when we look at the goal scoring table for the last ten years.

He is a free agent at the end of the season and has got to be a priority for the club when it plans the squad for the next campaign. The transfer window closes next week and that will give some clarity to the financial position in the Fir Park coffers. In the short term we'll have to hope that no tempting offer robs us of our goal machine.
