The Mighty 'Well are Europe bound

Sunday's result at Parkhead confirmed that we have qualified with two games to spare. This season has entertained and thrilled us. We were treated to some of the best football many of us have ever seen and we shed tears when we lost Phil at the end of December. The trials of the Fir Park pitch had to be overcome and we had to change our style of play to accommodate the poor surface but the players overcame all the problems and can look forward to the last couple of games knowing that we have a European trip to anticipate.

The enormity of the achievement grows when we look back to the sad outfit which ended season 2006/7. We finished last year in tenth place with a total of thirty eight points and were transformed over the summer when Mark McGhee took over. What a season!

The first goal of the season celebration at Love St
Stephen Craigan was in the BBC commentary box when the final whistle in Glasgow confirmed our European qualification and his delight was evident.

The draw for the first qualification round takes place on June 27 but we will not be in that hat. Uefa regulations are not easy to interpret but it looks like we'll be in either the second qualifying round or the first round proper - depending on how Queen of the South do in the Scottish Cup Final. The draw for the first round proper takes place on August 29.

No matter when we enter the competition we will have a chance to make a mark. Surely we can do better than the last fiasco - losing to Mypa from Finland on goal difference?

Come on ye 'Well!
