The Trust View

The text of the press release is as follows.

The Motherwell Supporters Trust and Well fans in general have serious concerns about the arrangements for the Celtic game at Fir Park on 22 May. These relate to issues of crowd safety, ticketing and also Celtic being presented with the League Championship trophy at Fir Park in the event that they win it that day.

It is the Trust’s view that Motherwell supporters should not be moved from either the Cooper or East Stands to accommodate Celtic fans. Such arrangements should not be considered as our supporters have purchased season tickets in good faith and should be entitled to use their own seats at all matches. With regard to ticketing for the match, the Trust believes that adequate arrangements for segregation should be put in place.

The Well Trust hopes that, at the end of the match, there will be specific arrangements made for the Motherwell fans to acknowledge their players as they have done in past years. However, it fully supports the club in asking fans not to run onto the pitch at full time to celebrate, even if well intentioned.

It is the Trust’s view that a team winning the League Championship should have the trophy presented to them in front of their home fans. We do not consider that it is appropriate for this to happen at an “away” ground. We are encouraging Motherwell FC to raise this issue with the SPL Board to ensure that in future the decision is not left to individual clubs to decide this in isolation.

The Well Trust requested and was granted a meeting with Directors and management of Motherwell FC on Saturday 7 May to try to resolve these important issues.
